Acuity

Protocol Systems, Inc.

Acuity combines Protocol portable Propaq monitors with a powerful SPARC-based workstation to provide medical/surgical floors the flexibility totransform any bed to a monitored bed in minutes, and monitor those bedsfrom a central station. Simple telephone cable-type jacks, connected tothe central station computer, are installed next to each bed, allowingthe portable Propaq monitors to be plugged-in and unplugged from bed tobed as the acuity levels of the floor's patient census dictate.Acuity's software provides unique two-way communication capability thatallows the operator at the central station to remotely control a Propaqmonitor at the bedside. For example, the operator may remotely initiate anoninvasive blood pressure reading, or change the monitor's alarmsettings, and ECG lead selection. Other advancements in central stationmonitoring include the system's unique graphical human interfacefeaturing user-friendly icons and point-and-click computer mouseoperation.Acuity can monitor up to 16 patients at a time. The workstation providesfull-screen view of up to 12 patients' vital signs, when viewed in theWaveform mode. When the Propaq mode is selected, full representations ofthe individual Propaq monitors of up to eight patients can be viewed. Ifan alarm condition occurs for a monitored patient not representedonscreen, that patient's vital signs will automatically come into view, alerting the clinician to the source of the alarm.
